Habitat: Mangalica is exclusively a domesticated animal. Currently, they are bred only on specialized farms where they are fed to produce a large amount of lard.
Diet: Juicy vegetables such as pumpkin, zucchini, carrots, beets, as well as cottage cheese, millet, peas, barley, various greens (nettle, clover), corn, wheat bran, buckwheat.
Did you know?
- Like wild boars, Mangalica piglets are born striped with a camouflage pattern that changes as they grow.
- These pigs can be taken for walks in winter as they easily tolerate the cold.
- Each piglet has its own “personal” nipple from which only it drinks, distinguished by smell.
- In Hungary, Mangalica breeders receive various benefits and incentives for further breeding of the breed.
